Défi écologique - Berkem Biosolutions

Over the next few years, the public hygiene sector will need to respond to substantial changes.

Public Hygiene: A Sector Facing Demographic Challenges

Growing population: the global population is growing by 80 million people per year and is expected to reach 8.6 billion by 2030. This growth creates additional demand for pest control solutions due to increasing population density in urban areas.

Urbanisation: it is estimated that 60% of the global population will live in cities by 2025 and 70% by 2050 (1990: 43%). Pest infestations are most common in cities.

The growth of the middle class: an estimated 160 million people are moving into the middle class each year, with higher standards of hygiene and a lower tolerance for pests.

Public Hygiene: A Sector Facing Environmental Challenges

Climate change: By 2050, an increase in pests and hygiene issues posed by climate change and associated extreme weather events is expected to result in approximately 250,000 additional deaths per year from malaria, diarrhoea, and other diseases.

Invasive species: the proliferation of invasive species (pests and plants) is expected to continue as a result of intercontinental trade, requiring increased vigilance and preventive treatments. The economic damage is estimated at $120 billion per year in the United States alone.

Public Hygiene: A Sector Facing Health Challenges

Vector-borne diseases: more than 3.9 billion people in over 128 countries are at risk of contracting dengue fever, with an estimated 96 million cases annually and the emergence of new diseases such as the Powassan virus.

Increasingly strict regulations: regulations are driving the search for less toxic solutions, with approximately 1,000 active ingredients (54 insecticides) being lost in the EU biocide review process.

Public Hygiene: SYNERKEM® As A Response To These Challenges

BERKEM BIOSOLUTIONS offers its SYNERKEM® technology to respond to the environmental, sanitary and demographic challenges facing the public hygiene sector.

SYNERKEM® technology allows manufacturers to reduce the content of biocidal or phytosanitary active substances in their formulas while maintaining their effectiveness. This technology will enable manufacturers to accelerate their transition while meeting the industry’s expectations for solutions providing protection against insects and micro-organisms (viruses, bacteria, yeast, fungi).

Our R&D teams put their expertise at your disposal to help you develop your projects. Let’s innovate together in vector and pest control solutions.
